The BBC is a national asset. I think one reason why the US is so irreconcilably divided is because the media are so partisan. If people just use their one information source, or only information sources which present one viewpoint, there becomes little opportunity to reflect critically. The media has no ethic of supporting opinions with evidenced rational arguments supported by facts. Lying is unchecked. Freedom of speech seems to be interpreted as freedom to lie, no requirement for integrity or responsibility to support arguments. Not impressed with the media environment in the USA. I also thought it was interesting that President Zelensky emphasized this week there were no shortages of artillery ammunition in Ukraine and in fact sufficient supplies had been available for weeks. This contradicts a lot of reporting on the ground and a very high amount of complaining and criticism on social media. I believe the US quickly shipped large numbers of artillery shells as soon as Ukraine aid was approved. The US has millions of rounds in storage in Europe and has purchased large amounts from allies like South Korea. The US accomplished in one month what the EU failed to do after 16 months of promises and pledges. Imagine Anthony Blinken’s confusion when everyone inside Ukraine continues to complain about lack of aid and uses this as an excuse for Russian success in Kharkiv region attacks. Ukraine has been using this excuse for every problem and setback. Why were fortifications and defenses built in Sumy and Chernihiv but not built in Kharkiv and Donetsk? Because the US cut off aid 8 months ago. It’s all Biden’s fault.

In Vietnam communist forces transited and massed in Cambodia and were off limits to US attack. Same in Pakistan during the campaign in Afghanistan. There’s multiple issues. The US “does not support and discourages” Ukrainian attacks on refineries. But those attacks continue and have increased. The US prohibits the use of US weapons in offensive strikes into Russia. However the US recognizes Ukraine’s right to defend its territory. Russia recognizes no difference between defensive and offensive strikes. I assumed it was reluctant allies such as Germany who were worried about escalation. But if the US allowed China to dictate how US weapons are used in Ukraine and Russia and where escalation redlines are being drawn that’s just manipulation by Putin and Xi. That’s unacceptable. Blinken said the US discourages some action but allows Ukraine to make decisions how to defend itself. Just last night we saw wide ranging attacks on infrastructure inside Russia. We will have to wait and see if US weapons are used for attacks in Belgorad oblast. As for intelligence I’m sure our European allies can provide that if the US is reluctant. Just as they provided ammunition and weapons during the temporary halt to US aid.
